Last fall our Orphan’s Promise team in Ukraine traveled to the eastern most part of Russia to train people from churches and Christian organizations to work with graduated orphans. By bringing our Life Skills for Youth curriculum to this region, we provided ministries with practical tools to reach the vulnerable population of graduating orphans in that region.
The Orphan’s Promise team spent a week training a group of volunteers and commissioned them to do work in that region. We are happy to report that the work has taken off and is going strong!
Cecil, an American missionary, and his wife are leading a team that weekly teaches life skills lessons to youth from two different orphanages in Khabarovsk.
Time is spent with the youth teaching lessons from the Life Skills curriculum and additionally they provide the kids with lessons in cooking, knitting, and haircutting. The youth love the weekly lessons and come back each time expectant to learn more!
“The biggest attraction seems to be the cooking lessons,” writes Cecil, ”They LOVE to cook. We’re going to make our own cookbook, from the meals we’ve served ourselves Next week we are having a guest cook come and teach his specialty – cooking fish (fishing is very popular here).”
We are so encouraged to know that the seeds we have planted are reaping a harvest and we are grateful to Cecil and the team at Hope Center for being those harvesters in the field.
Cecil writes to Orphan’s Promise, “You really helped us with getting a team together. Your conference was a great blessing! Thanks so much for coming all the way to the eastern edge of the world to help us out. May the Lord bless you!
